From the basics of storytelling, to exploring the creative ingredients required to take your project from conception to development, to demystifying the director’s process, The Indie Series is a set of three classes inspired by the Independent Filmmaking process, and designed to lead any aspiring filmmaker from conception to execution.
Taught by award winning filmmaker, Jason Chaet (Seneca, Putzel), The Indie Series is a great class for any early career or veteran professional. You can register to each class individually or for the entire series! Please know that some classes have pre-existent requirements.
Ep. 1 – STORY AND STRUCTURE
Using a variety of popular culture examples, this fun and collaborative discussion winds its way through the basic principles of modern storytelling and three act structure. This workshop is great for anyone that is interested in creating their own work, improving their story analysis skills or just wants to gain more insight into how stories work.
This class is via ZOOM. The event will start off with a small introduction by AMCP, followed by the workshop led by Jason. Be prepared to offer feedback and discuss different topics as Jason shares invaluable information.

Ep. 2 – BUILD YOUR IDEA
Building on concepts and skills learned in Story and Structure, Build Your Idea explores the creative ingredients required to take your project from conception to development.
The first half of the class will identify the necessary ingredients for a successful story by deconstructing recent movies and television shows. The second half of the class will foster a collaborative discussion and encourage participants to present and explore their own ideas. So whether you simply have the beginning wisp of an idea and are looking to move forward, or a fully formed premise you want to flesh out, Build Your Idea will give you the tools you need to create exciting, original and fully formed work.
REQUIREMENT: Participants must have completed the course “STORY AND STRUCTURE” at AMCP

Ep. 3: FINALE – DIRECT YOUR IDEA
Building on concepts and skills learned in Story and Structure and Build Your Idea, Direct Your Idea demystifies the director’s process to help bring your project to life. From early conceptual steps, to creating a Lookbook, to working with actors and (almost) everything in between, Direct Your Idea is a great workshop for beginning directors or anyone who is interested in directing in the future.
REQUIREMENT: Participants must have completed the course “BUILD YOUR IDEA” at AMCP

JASON CHAET
Jason Chaet is a multiple award winning filmmaker, theatre director, editor, producer and acting teacher based in New York City. He got his start at the Ensemble Studio Theatre where he developed new work by playwrights including David Mamet and Arthur Miller. Jason has worked for HBO/USCAF and has scores of theater directing credits around the country. His feature film Putzel won multiple awards, appeared in over fifty film festivals around the world, and was distributed internationally. Other Film/TV credits include Remember, Kissing Jessica Stein (Creative Consultant), and Avenues (TV Pilot). His most recent feature film Seneca had its world premiere at the HBO NY Latino Film Festival at AMC 42nd in New York City, where it won a Special Jury Prize. Seneca won multiple awards on the film festival circuit over the past year including the prestigious Ultra Indie award at the Woodstock Film Festival, and most recently Best Picture and Best Director at the Phoenix Film Festival. Seneca recently premiered exclusively on HBO Latino and HBO Max. Jason is a longtime faculty member at AMDA where he serves as the Supervisor of First Semester Acting, Acting for Camera, and Screenwriting.
Refund Policy
We have a “no refund” policy at AMCP, unless a class is cancelled. If a student cancels due to a situation beyond his/her/their control, we will grant them credit to their account for any other class or event at AMCP as long as cancellation happens at least one week prior to the start of the class. We will take extraordinary situations on a case by case basis, reserving the right to provide either a 50% refund, a full refund or a credit to the account.
